Memorial damage worse than thought
On
March 22 2006 the Crewe Chronicle reports that the war memorial, which has
now been moved, has definitely been extensively damaged. A time capsule is under
memorial "WORKMEN should uncover a time capsule buried deep beneath the remnants of the town's war memorial, according to Coppenhall man Wilmot Richards." Memorial move is halted

clambered up ladders to drill into the base of Britannia after cracks were
noticed in the folds of her robes by onlookers. [. . .]

cranes sent away, when the specialist team found steel pins holding the
